ATLAS FR-cloud

Which resources can you use ?

The LHC Computing Grid (LCG) has the concept of "tiers" of sites. Tier 0 is CERN, the source of all the LHC data. The Tier 1 sites are major computing centres around the world; in France the Tier 1 centre is at the CCIN2P3 near Lyon. Each Tier 1 site then has some satellite Tier 2 sites. In France there are six Tier 2 centers (IN2P3-CC-T2 Lyon, LAPP Annecy, LPC Clermont, CPPM Marseille, LPSC Grenoble and GRIF-IRFU, GRIF-LAL, GRIF-LPNHE in Paris area). LCG also considers Tier 3 (local computing facilities for local people), attached to the previous Tier2s.

Associated to the ATLAS French sites, Tier 2s located in Beijing, Romania and Tokyo belong to the FR-cloud:

The following page at CERN describes the computing resources available for the ATLAS collaboration.

Analysis queues

Here is an overview of the analysis queues for the French cloud. In practice, except in very particular cases, one does not need to specify a specific site to run grid jobs, the grid brokering finds the best suited site depending on the dataset to be analysed and the site availability.

Most ATLAS clouds have a support team called squad ATLAS FR cloud support team (FR Squad):

  • Sabine Crépé-Renaudin (LPSC)
  • Emmanuel Le Guirriec (CPPM)
  • Luc Poggioli (LAL)
  • Camelia Visan (for Romanian sites)
